It also incorporates real-time GPS functionality, making it easy to find restaurants, hotels or special sites of interest. Destinations can be found by simply typing in an address or keyword and then following the turn-by-turn directions. It even includes estimated drive times to let you know how far you are from a destination.

VAIO Lifestyle PC Innovations
Engineered to provide the feel of a larger notebook, the VAIO Lifestyle PC provides a convenient typing experience by extending the keyboard to the perimeters of the chassis maximizing the typing area. The spacing between keys has also been engineered to help reduce typing mistakes making it perfect for long fingernails.

When you have more than a few documents or web pages open at once, your screen can get a little chaotic. But thanks to a special window arrangement utility, you can organize them all with one simple touch. Press a button and watch as all your open windows are presented side-by-side on a single screen, cutting clutter and giving you a fresh perspective on your workspace.

The unit also has an instant-mode option that launches directly into Sony's Xross Media Bar interface, so you can rapidly boot up and access music, video, photos and the Web. A built-in webcam lets you video chat with family, friends and colleagues. A third-party service is required.

You don't need an Internet connection (in the U.S. or Canada) with the real-time GPS functionality. Just step outside and type in where you want to go. You'll get turn-by-turn directions displayed right on the map--it's that simple. Other navigation features include real-time tracking of your current location, the ability to search by address, keyword or points of interest, estimated drive times to your desired location and points of interest, such as restaurants and hotels within 50 miles of your location

Hard Drive and Memory
This VAIO Lifestyle PC includes a 60 GB hard drive with G-Sensor Shock Protection, which makes your data even less vulnerable to loss or damage. When the built-in 3D acceleration sensor detects a risky movement like being dropped, the HDD-head will lock up to secure its position and protect the disc from scratching. I never thought I'd say this but...
Do yourself a favor and stay away from Sony laptops and notebooks. I have been a SONY fan for ages, but this time they let me down to the extent that I'll never buy Sony again. I bought a Sony Vaio VGN FZ series and after 15 months the motherboard completely broke. It just shut off with no warning and I tried to get help from Sony but they have the worst techinical support in the USA; the only thing they do (after waiting several minutes on the phone for someone to take your call) is say "I am sorry for your inconvenience" or "send your laptop to the Service Center". I live in Virginia and their proposal was me to send the laptop to San Diego, CA!!!!! and I would have to run with all costs (including shipping) plus they told tha it would be more than 500 dollars to repair a laptop that costs 980 dollars brand new!!!! I just gave up and wiil be definitely getting a new one; however, this time I am going to go for a Dell or HP because now I realize the importance of a good technical support.

Sony Vaio - all sony vaio's ive seen (lack of a latch!)
I purchased this item and immediately noticed it had no latch! no magnet, and no way to keep it shut. Knowing this would be a problem I went to return it at bestbuy and they wanted a 15% restocking fee so I ended up keeping it. God what a mistake that was, I was on my way to class, I'm a college student and I have a lot of paperwork mind you, and I went to open my laptop and the screen was scratched, because apparently a cd got wedged in between the screen and the keyboard! - I called sony and asked for a replacement screen and they said that this was an outside of warranty issue. Heres my problem with this, I spent all this money on a laptop, only to realize that it didn't come with a latch! even after the salesperson sold it to me telling me it had a way "some how" to latch, and then after the first year of owning it, keep in mind my screen is now scratched... the hinges have come loose! - so stuff gets in the computer even more now... This computer would be great, if sony didn't have such a crappy warranty policy about replacing a damaged product, clearly caused by an idiot engineer that DIDN'T want to put a latch on my laptop! Thanks for nothing guys...

Great Looking Portable Vaio
Sony did a great job in designing the Vaio P, sure, it won't fit in your pocket, but at a mere 1.5lbs (a bit less), it is so portable. It functions pretty well for what it's suppose to be, which is a NetBook (sorry Sony). ...so keep that in mind, do not buy this if what you really need is a laptop, cause you can get laptops that perform way better than the Vaio P at half its cost. I believe that the unit is representing what a NetBook should be, and hopefully setting a benchmark for future NetBooks.

Here's my personal experience if anyone cares...
I should mention that I do not have this specific unit, but instead the VGN-P598E/Q, which is the same as this with the exception of a 128GB Solid State; performance wise, no major difference between this model sold by Amazon.com. The only reason why I went the extra mile was because I really need the space. The unit has not disappointed me very much yet, sure it can't really play HD video on YouTube or Hulu, or iTunes movies. but that's ok to me, because I need it for productivity. ...so that's an other thing to keep in mind when buying this movie if you're a movie fanatic or plan on watching movies while traveling. I use mine to run work related software, and some of that software can be a bit demanding and this little unit can handle it. THe software I run includes SQL, SharePoint Designer, Visual Studio 2008, the whole Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe CS4, FileMaker Pro 9, iTunes (for music while I work LOL) and others. ...sure, I do prefer to run these on my iMac, and even my MacBook Air runs them better, but if I'm on the go, I see no reason why I should carry a bigger laptop (I know, the MacBook Air only weighs 1.5lbs more, but it's still bigger), so I decided to get the Sony Vaio P. If I ever need to give a demo, no problem, the Vaio P ships with a little dongle that lets you plug a VGA monitor or projector into it (that's also the solution if you think the font is to small, or just use the zoom feature).

...that's sort of how I use the Vaio P, and it has yet to fail me.

Sure, it might be a bit slow, but not super slow. I do admit that I had higher expectations, and was disappointed to find out videos aren't handled so well, and that even the most basic game struggles, but I can live with that.

Before buying the Vaio P, ask your self what you plan on doing with it, if your only using the Microsoft Office Suit, e-mail, browser, etc... the Vaio P will be great, if you plan on playing games, perhaps the Vaio Z will appeal to you. If you'll miss having a built in disk drive, perhaps you'll prefer the Vaio TT which still weighs under 3lbs. I will recommend one thing, if you're looking to save money, and can only have one portable computer, or even one computer (meaning not both a desktop and laptop), do not go out and buy a Vaio P, buy it only as a second computer, only as an Ultra Mobile.

I've always believed that laptops should be ultra mobile, and not as heavy and as ugly as Alienware laptops or other hideous 17" machines (ok, I'll exclude the 17" MacBook Pro from the hideous list), which is why I love my Vaio P and MacBook Air ...to me, they are nearly perfect, although I do wish they both had nVidia graphics (the MacBook AIr does), and a 2.)GHz or more CPU. I have owned other NetBooks and Ultra Mobiles, and so far the Vaio P is my favorite. I've had two Sony Vaio U-series, the Samsung Q1, the Acer Aspire One, the Lenovo S10, and maybe one or two others I really hated and can't remember. ...the Lenovo S10 and Acer Aspire One will run a lot better than the Vaio P (enough for you to tell a difference) and do cost a lot less, and performance wise I would recommend them anytime over the Vaio P, but they were just to big for me (not to mention the Acer Aspire One is one ugly piece of machine, the new Aspire One looks a bit nicer though).

Let's just say that if you want portable, a really high resolution monitor, a really bright monitor, a nice keyboard size, good US/Canada based customer service (with a Mac or a Vaio you'll likely never have to call anyways), a great innovative design, only carry 1.5lbs, read both SD and Memory Stick media, the Vaio P is right for you.

...so anyways, that's more of my opinion on the Vaio P and portable computers, I didn't want to bother writing a review since many websites have already rated the Vaio P, and many self-proclaimed experts have written their review on Amazon.

As a side note, if you really like your Vaio P, you might want to consider getting a Vaja Case, an extended battery for traveling, perhaps an extra charger for the office, and I would recommend upgrading to Windows 7 as soon as it becomes available for better performance (or downgrading the XP, which I'm not doing).

As for others reviewing the Vaio P, understand what this machine is meant to do, and what it's for, prior to giving it 3 or less stars with any justification other than complaining about how it costs to much.

Impossibly Slow; but beautiful....
I bought the green HDD model on an impulse but returned it. It is impossibly slow. Downgrading to Windows XP may not be impossible, but it's not easy, either. For this price, you really have to be in love with the form rather than the function. Sorry, I wish it were otherwise.

what a desappointement
this is my fourtn sony laptop in three years and the most disapponting
the screen you can eventually tolerate, the battery last barely 40 minutes , but the main problem
is how sloww and frustrating this laptop..
i am surprised that sony would release such a machine .
i returned it after 10 days of strugling despite the 250 restocking fee .

The Basics

  • Processor: Experience improved energy efficiency, expanded wireless connectivity, and amazing battery life with the 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo P9600 processor featuring Intel Centrino 2 technology. This processor has a 2.66 GHz processor speed, super-sized 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and a extra-large 3 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

Formerly codenamed Montevina, Intel Centrino 2 processor technology improves upon every facet of a laptop's main features, including performance and battery life via new processors and chipsets, faster draft 802.11n wireless, and new business-class manageability capabilities. The new hafnium-infused circuitry--which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors--conserves even more energy, giving you more time away from the wall outlet.

The Intel Core 2 Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and it can run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background.

  • Hard Drive: The extra large 320 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (with a fast 7200 RPM speed--usually found in desktops) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.

The G-Sensor Shock Protection feature makes your data even less vulnerable to loss or damage. When the built-in 3D acceleration sensor detects a risky movement like being dropped, the HDD-head will lock up to secure its position and protect the disc from scratching. An intelligent algorithm, unique to VAIO PCs, judges whether or not a movement is risky, activating disk drive protection only when your hardware is at risk.

  • Memory: The 4 GB of installed RAM (PC3-8500, 2 x 2 GB) maximizes the capacity of this notebook, and it also offers a top-of-the-line 1066 MHz speed.

  • DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 4x for DVD+R DL, 4x for DVD-R DL, 8x for both single layer DVD±R, 8x for single layer DVD+RW, 6x for single layer DVD-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, and 24x/16x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 82-key keyboard (2mm stroke and 19.05mm pitch) and electro-static two-button touchpad.

The VAIO Z focuses in on the details.
Screen, Video & Audio
The 13.1-inch XBRITE-DuraView LCD has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels--perfect for added screen real estate as well as watching movies in 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Sony's DuraView LCD technology utilizes a special hard coating on the LCD to help defend against scratching and general wear and tear. It also has an LED backlight, which provides lower power consumption for improved battery life as well as incredibly high brightness levels that amplify the color display.

This notebook uses Sony's exclusive Hybrid Graphics System, which lets you set your graphics performance with a simple flick of a switch, enabling you to toggle between an internal graphics chip for optimal power consumption with excellent performance or an external graphics chip for even more robust performance. You can choose either the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (with up to 1300 MB of dynamically allocated video memory) or the installed Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS graphics card (with 256 MB of dedicated RAM and up to 1500 MB of shared video RAM). This notebook provides resolutions to external displays of up to 1920 x 1080 via HDMI and 2048 x 1536 via VGA, and it also has an integrated Intel High Definition audio card.

Enabled by PureVideo HD, the Nvidia GeForce 9300M helps movies come to life with outstanding picture clarity, ultra-smooth video and vivid color. The lifelike images have up to six times the detail of standard DVD movies. Delivering state-of-the-art graphics performance, GeForce 9300M GS graphics card is sure to give you the power and performance you crave to play the hottest DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 titles.

This Intel GMA 4500MHD is built with Intel Clear Video technology, which delivers clearer, more detailed images by eliminating many of the jagged edges and video artifacts seen when viewing interlaced content and features powerful color control to ensure videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
Go beyond LAN networks and find the internet virtually anywhere with integrated Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) technology via optional Sprint Mobile Broadband EV-DO service (software included, subscription required)--helping you to keep connected without having to hunt for a Wi-Fi coffee shop. Sony's SmartWi technology seamlessly integrates your wireless Wide Area Network (WAN), office/home Wi-Fi LAN, and Bluetooth options, enabling you to toggle among your wireless connectivity options depending on your surroundings.

Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with the integrated Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN LAN chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and wi-fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). You also get super-fast wired connectivity, with a Gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000).

With the Bluetooth connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones as well as enjoy wireless stereo music streaming (thanks to its embedded A2DP profile). This notebook also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 34 card slot (though no PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. Here's the full list of connectivity options:

  • 2 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals

Does not support Hardware Virtualization (VT)
While this laptop is advertised as a business laptop, the BIOS is crippled, and does not allow for the enabling of Hardware Virtualization (what Intel calls VT). If you plan on upgrading to Windows 7 and want to take advantage of one of its biggest features (the sweet new XP Compatability mode) or use the new version of Virtual PC, Hardware Virtualization is required. Do not purchase this laptop if you plan on moving to Windows 7 unless Sony fixes this issue.

(The rest of the laptop is amazing, but that one feature is a deal breaker)

Great Product - Greater Service
Everything's great - only one con - minor one - the Sony has disabled the virtualization setting in the BIOS - so you cannot run 64bit virtual PC (to test Windows7 64 bit).

Otherwise a great product. And the promotion for a productivity / mobility pack is great too!

Superb Notebook !
A Sony Vaio is always at the top of the range when it comes to Notebooks, and we pay the price for the brand (a little bit), but quality comes with it and this model just confirms it.

I purchased this in order to replace my "old" vaio (3 1/2 years old, which by the way is still running great) a VGN-SZ330P, but I wanted to seize the opportunity to get a new model for a good price.

First thing I was impressed was the size of it... Although my previous one was already small, this one managed to be smaller and still have a great size for a regular use.
I have a preference for the 13" screen, since they are not to small (11", which makes it hard to type and see at the small screen with a high resolution) and not to big (14" and 15" notebooks, which are usually quite heavy).. They are the perfect size...

The Weight issue from this one to my previous one is, I must say, ASTONISHING !! This Notebook is LIGHT ! and I am a heavy user of notebook doing a lot of international traveling and carrying it with me everywhere...
And this was by far what got me in love with this machine as I got my hands on it.. 3.42 pounds for a 13" notebook is nothing..
And the good news is that the power adapter source is also smaller then previous model !!

This is the main difference from a VAIO to another brand, as you know you are getting the top quality components, and the design is also on the bright side as well... Really nice design. Improving all the time.

After you turn it on... The thing is super fast...
The WiFi at N-Draft is also super fast (I am using a LINKSYS WRT310N router)...
Keyboard is very good, with the typing feel of it very comfortable.

The sensor of fingerprints is also faster than my previous one, which was quite a surprise...

I also like to push the notebook to it's limits, therefore, some games where installed on it and with the NVidia 9300GS graphic card it does handle well ...
Some of the Games are:
BF2 / BF2142
Flatout2
Tom Clancy's HWAX

Graphics are pretty intensive and the machine keep up with the Frame Rate at above average for such games... This was also some great news...
I must say that the 3 first games I mentioned also used to run on my previous one, although this one delivers higher frame rates.
As for the HAWX, it is a brand new one, which this note handles well !!

The HD is huge, 320Gb is the advertised, but you only get 280GB since there is a big part of it for Vista and the Sony Pre installed software which you will not get rid of it...
This is one of the few downsides of the Notebook.. The amount of software that comes preinstalled... Nothing that a few Uninstalls would not solve...

And I also had a great surprise... This Notebook comes with an integrated GPS, in connection with the WLAN Verizon (if you want)...
But the GPS was really a surprise, which works with the program from Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009.. This was definatelly a Bonus !

The webcam plays well on SKYPE, it has a real good sound (altough I must admit, that when it comes to sound, the VAIO's are not the cream of the crop, since the more sound quality and volume, you have to understand it will add up to weight and also that a lot of vibration from the speakers is not really good (internally) for the notebook.

Again, I have added a picture for the comparision from my previous VAIO to this new one, and I definattelly think is worth to pay the quality money on such machine as you know you will be excited with it's performance..

After all the compliments, I could point out a few things that could be improved.
a) Backlighting for the keyboard.. This is something which some notes are already doing and it makes a difference.
b) The size of the power source adaptor, although it has diminished a lot from previous versions, could come as a standart the already ULTRA compact one, which SONY now sells it only as an add-on, separatelly.
c) The arrow keys could be of a bigger size, since there is space around it for some "growth"... I believe a lot of the users would agree to this point.

But above all, these are only recomendations, since it does not underate what the Notebook is... A perfect companion for any business trip around the globe, ligtweight and fast in order not to add to the hand luggage and good size widescreen for watching movies.

Go for it. This is a very good machine and you will very happy with it.

The Basics

  • Processor: Experience improved energy efficiency, expanded wireless connectivity, and amazing battery life with the 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor featuring Intel Centrino 2 technology. This processor has a 2.4 GHz processor speed, super-sized 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and a extra-large 3 MB L2 cache.

  • Hard Drive: This notebook provides 500 GB of storage, spread across two 250 GB Serial ATA hard drives (5400 RPM), offering one of the largest capacities you'll currently find in a laptop You'll enjoy the space for storing your entire music collection as well as your DVDs and downloaded TV shows and movies. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.

  • Memory: The 4 GB of installed RAM (PC6400, 800 MHz, 2 x 2 GB) helps boost the amount of available video RAM that's shared with this notebook's video card. This notebook has an amazing 8 GB maximum RAM capacity (4 x 2 GB). To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.

  • DVD/CD Drive: This Sony notebook is capable of playing back Blu-ray Disc movies in stunning clarity, as well as playing your current library of purchased and burned disc content. This notebook can also write standard DVD and CD media. The BD drive offers a 5x speed for reading BD-R/RE discs and a 5x BD-R/RE DL (dual layer) read speed. It also offers the following write speeds for standard DVD and CD discs: 6x DVD±R DL, 8x for single-layer DVD±R, 6x DVD±RW, 24x CD-R/RW, and 5x for DVD-RAM.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: The elegant, yet simple keyboard has an isolated key design with 19.05mm pitch and 2.0 mm stroke, and it can be stored below the LCD to save space. It includes a variety of action buttons, including volume +/-, muting, zoom in/out.

It comes with a Blu-ray Disc optical drive for playback of high-definition content, including movies in full HD 1080p resolution.
Screen, Video & Audio
Ideal for Blu-ray Disc movies, this Sony AW laptop's 18.4-inch LCD screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Since many high-definition films are shot using a 16:9 aspect ratio, the unit-s extra-wide LCD is constructed with the same dimensions, helping to minimize the black bars that typically appear and letting you view movies in their intended format. The screen's XBRITE-FullHD technology delivers dazzling colors and stunning picture clarity in full 1080p high definition. It also provides deep blacks and bright whites, true-to-life color, and razor-sharp detail. Preventing surprise at print, the Adobe RGB color compatible display ensures the most color accurate reproduction of images captured by your digital camera.

Video is powered by the Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT HD graphics/video card, which provides 512 MB of dedicated video RAM and offers up to 2280 MB of total available graphics memory as allocated by Windows Vista. Enabled by PureVideo HD, movies come to life with outstanding picture clarity, ultra-smooth video and vivid color. The lifelike images have up to six times the detail of standard DVD movies. Delivering state-of-the-art graphics performance, GeForce 9300M GT graphics card is sure to give you the power and performance you crave to play the hottest DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 titles. Its 16x full-screen antialiasing technology delivers superior quality along with astounding performance and since it's optimized for Windows Vista.

This laptop also has an integrated Intel High Definition Audio card with Dolby Digital Live, which provides real-time encoding technology that converts any audio signal into a Dolby Digital bitstream for transport and playback through a home theater system. It provides Dolby Digital (5.1-channel surround sound) during movie playback and gameplay, immersing players in high-quality surround sound that puts them at the center of the action. This laptop includes two built-in stereo speakers and a 2W subwoofer.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with the integrated quad-mode Intel Wireless 5100AGN Wi-Fi chip. With the Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones as well as enjoy wireless stereo music streaming (thanks to its embedded A2DP profile).

This notebook also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 34 card slot (though no PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. Here's the full list of connectivity options:

  • 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals

Customer Reviews

Flawed LCD Backlight Design
The backlight on the VGN-AW230J is poorly designed, resulting in an area approximately 0.5 cm high at the bottom of the panel that is evenly and significantly brighter than the rest of the panel. This same effect can be seen to a lesser extent along the sides of the panel. The opposite effect occurs at the bottom corners of the panel, where the backlight appears pinched and at times completely black.

Sony initially told me this was a defect and sent a technician to repair the laptop. After the technician replaced the LCD panel (and broke the bezel in the process), the problem remained. Sony then requested that I send the laptop to their repair center. The repair center has since notified me that the strip of light is "normal," and that despite multiple unnecessary repairs made at their suggestion, they will not provide me a with new, unmodified laptop.

Sony has also added a vaguely worded article to their knowledgebase describing the problem as normal. While they refer to the problem as a "glow," which can in fact be normal for some backlights, this is not how the problem presents itself. http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/searchEntry.do?locale=LA_eng_US&usemicrosite=true®ion=UMRE_UNITEDSTATES_2_5&sonyregion=US&searchString=lcd%20bright&product=SG_VGNAW230J_1_5&sonytemplate=1&sonymodel=VGNAW230J

I was quite surprised with Sony's response given the marketing behind this particular laptop's display and their direct support of Adobe's color profiles. If you're looking for a laptop with a clear, even, and professional display, look elsewhere.

Windows Vista kill the beaty of sony
This machine is perfect, Vista is no good and another point is imposible to find one leather case por this size.

Great Laptop!!
PROS:
This laptop is great! At first, I could not get used to the size of the screen, but that quickly grew on me. The full keyboard is absolutely a plus for me. The picture is very clear, the sound is great (not party loud though.) Recording videos and chatting through the webcam is great also. I love watching DVD's on here, downloading music, writing papers, browsing the internet, checking e-mails, etc. If you're a traveler, I would recommend purchasing the Neoprene laptop case for the AW series which was only .99!! I also bought the Linksys Ultra Rangeplus Wireless-N Broadband Router (the best price found on Amazon of course).

CONS:
The laptop is only 8 lbs. However, I was unaware of how heavy that actually is. Not really a downside, but it would be nicer if it were a bit lighter. The standard capacity battery that the laptop comes with has a very short life. That battery will last you just over one hour, which is not a lot of time if you're typing a paper, dl songs, or watching a movie. You can leave it plugged in, but I highly recommend purchasing the Large Capacity battery as well.

Hope this helps!!!! =)

A masterpiece, but unfortunately not all good ...
Negative:
-the light on the screen is 'bleeding' through on the bottom. The colors are then lighter towards the bottom then on the top.
- the sound is awful. That cheap laptop I had before had loudspeakers on the top of the lid and then on the bottom part too. The Sony just has those awful sounding (first I thought I have to remove a cover somewhere for better quality but no, that's it). The laptop is more one for work or office use (exactly what i use it for) and less for multimedia. Doesnt sony call the laptop a business solution?
- the power adopter was defective when i got it. I dont understand that, dont they test at all at Sony? How can they deliver a defective power adopter? Sony send me a new adopter in just two days. Maybe they only test every other unit?
- The software CD or DVD is missing. Well, i formatted and installed my own stuff anyway so it doesnt bother me much.
- The connector on the laptop where the power supply goes really sucks. Why dont they have that magnet solution like those from Apple? (or something similar?) I bet that this will be the first to break for me.
- the webcam is not that great. The picture quality is so blurred, the colors are to colorful and just not good.
overall, i wish they would have spend a little more money on the camera, the sound and the power connector to the laptop. That would have been like another 30$ and would result in something really great.

Postive
- it really is a master piece. So beautiful (after removing all those stickers). The product is high quality.
- Sony is very responsive. They even wanted to pick up the laptop for repair but i found out already that the power adopter that came with laptop was defective.
- the screen is just great!!! very bright, nice colors and big too. I wish there would be even one thats bigger.
- I like the keyboard. I think there will be not much stuff falling into the cracks.
- I like the mechanism of how the laptop closes. I hope the plastic will not crack and break all over like all the other laptops always do.

The laptop is heavy. But what would you expect? It is a big laptop and you will trade off size and power for weight. There are no miracles like that.

My new baby!
I love this laptop! It is great for watching movies as well as all the other stuff I do. I am selling all my other pcs, this one will do all I need.
